Building my Pietenpol Air Camper

The Pietenpol Air Camper

May 31, 2011 - I started 989CB in June 2010. I will have to play a little catch up here. Most of these pictures are from June/July 2010.

Rib Jig

First completed rib. Notice the EAA work bench.
I made two of these and converted my Norm Abram workbench
into a third bench.

This is my gusset station

Cap strip bending jig. Simple and effective.

Shot of the shop.

Jig to make the angle cuts for the rib braces.

Another view of the shop.

Rib construction area.

My first rib. I was really much happier than I appear.

July/August - Shop visitors. I was privileged to welcome
Jim Markle and Jack Phillips to my workshop.
Jim has to be the most traveled Pietenpol builder on the planet.
He travels a lot for his job and has visited Piet builders from coast-to-coast.
Jack Phillips is the reason I am building my Pietenpol. I found Jack on the
Internet through our local EAA Chp 1114. Jack had a couple of stories in
the archived newsletters about building and flying his beautiful Piet that really
captured my attention. I also had the pleasure of a ride in Jack's Piet on a
gorgeous early evening flight.

While waiting for my next batch of Stika Spruce to come in I
used some cedar to make a little Pietenpol art.
